"Lo, children are an heritage from the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Psalm 127:3. Praise the Lord for his wonderful blessing of a new-born son. Justin Thomas Appelget was born on July 8, 2001 at 10:45 a.m. Brazilian time. He was 4 kilos, which is about 8.8 pounds. We thank God for the safe delivery and the ability to help Enid get through the less than desirable conditions during the hospital stay. Please pray for us as we take the new challenge of raising a family.
The last five months have been life rattling experience as we have lived here in Brazil. We spent a lot of time the first months working on the house we are living in on the YWAM base. I made our bedroom lizard proof, dirt proof, bat proof, tarantula proof, snake proof, and for now semi-bug proof which is great for our new little one. We still have much more to go on the house if we want.
Concerning the School of the Bible, I worked on gathering some translators for the School of the Bible material and found four, but only two are working with the material right now. So we need prayer for more translators. Of course, I am still working on Portuguese. It is improving slowly. I have had some classes with a tutor, but have experienced some character testing frustrations with communication. Enid is doing great with the language. We also just helped host six School of the Bible students from Texas. They taught in a number of different churches and two YWAM bases. Pray that they would come back to help us with the School of the Bible here.
One of the ministry opportunities we have here is to work with the next English speaking DTS starting on September 24. DTS is the entry level school in which all YWAM missionaries must complete to work within the organization. This is a great opportunity to get more practice making a school happen and to prepare us for running the School of the Bible. We are going to have between ten and fifteen students. Our students are coming from North America, Europe, and Africa. There are nine different nations in the DTS so far and maybe more to add! Please pray as we seek to disciple the nations. This particular school has an outreach to street children. We have a branch ministry with the base that works with street children in Fortaleza. We hope to reach these forgotten young people and to restore them to God's plan. We also desire to take a team of the DTS students on a foreign outreach, but pray that it would be possible.
Thank you all for your baby gifts. We see God's provision through it all.
